Summer Camp Update From Connecticut Rivers Council

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Connecticut Rivers Council Scouting Families & Volunteers:

The Committee to Reopen Connecticut, in conjunction with the State’s Office of Early Childhood Education, confirmed that all residential sleep over camps will remain closed for the 2020 Summer Camp Season.

Scouts and Scouters will gather again in our camps when it is safe for all our participants to truly enjoy the wonders of the out of doors. While Summer Camps are one of the pinnacle experiences of the year-round Scouting program, it is not the only part of the Scouting program. Scouts and Leaders continue to meet virtually while maintaining social distancing and youth protection guidelines. Scouting’s values will continue to be etched into the hearts and minds of the youth we serve today and into the future.

We will be reaching out to each Unit signed up for the 2020 season to discuss options for the return of any funds paid.

Check out Camp Kinda Like-A for your Cub Scout and Scouts BSA program options.

Scout On!

Yours in Scouting,
Connecticut Rivers Council

Cooking Merit Badge Class Update

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Cooking Merit Badge Class Update

  • Scouts working on the cooking merit badge should’ve completed requirements 1-4 (Health and safety, Nutrition, Cooking basics, Cooking at home) so far.
  • Please scan or take pictures of what your scout has completed in his workbook and email that to Mr. Nevelos, dnevelos@hotmail.com, so Scoutbook can be updated.
  • Once Mr. Nevelos has that information for the majority of the class, he will be setting up virtual meetings for scouts to work together on requirements 5a, 5b, 5c, 6a, 6b, 6c, and 7 (Cooking at home – planning only, Trail and backpacking meals – planning only, and Food-related careers).
  • The remaining requirements for Camp cooking (5d-h) and Trail and backpacking meals (6d-f) that can’t be done virtually will be completed once the scouts are able to meet in person.
  • We will also be reaching out to Council to see if adjustments can be made to those requirements so scouts can still complete them without having to meet as a group in person.
