There will be a Court Of Honor on Saturday November 14th at 3:00 PM. It will be held outside at the Elks in front of the mansion.
In order to keep the size within the guidelines of 50 people outdoors we need to limit the attendance to the Scouts receiving awards and one parent. Please click here for the list of awards and Scouts receiving them.
All participants must complete and submit the COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire and have the responses reviewed and approved prior to entering the activity.
Mr. Houghtaling will have all awards individually bagged by Scout and handing them out with mask and gloves. We will announce each Scout and their awards and then call them up to receive their ziplock bag either by walking up or drive thru. We would like to know drive thru families ahead of time so we can prepare the announcement sequence. Please email t2020ct@gmail.com to let us know.

Important Notice: Latest COVID-19 Guidance From Connecticut Rivers Council
Connecticut Rivers Council COVID-19 Update
With Governor Lamont’s announcement this week of rolling back to Phase 2.1, we have received many questions regarding how this affects Scouting activities. Below is our latest guidance.
- Per the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (https://portal.ct.gov/DECD/Content/Coronavirus-Business-Recovery/Sector-Rules-and-Certification-for-Reopen), activities planned for this weekend – November 6-8 – may continue.
- Effective Monday, November 9th, all overnight Scouting activities must cease in order to comply with the Governor’s 10 PM to 5 AM curfew.
- Scouting event capacities are now 25 indoors and 50 outdoors. If the event is being held at someone’s residence, the capacity is 10, regardless if indoor our outdoor. https://portal.ct.gov/DECD/Content/Coronavirus-Business-Recovery/Sector-Rules-and-Certification-for-Reopen
- All Indoor meetings must be in compliance with this document: CRC Policy for Indoor Meetings
- All other COVID-19 protocols are still in place. Masks AND social distancing are required during all activities, and there can be no shared food.
- If your town is coded red as a COVID-19 hot spot, no in-person meetings are permitted until your town is no longer on the list. Please consult the State of Connecticut COVID-19 information website for a map of affected towns: CT Hot Spot map
Day activities are still going to be allowed if they comply with the State and Council guidelines. If your unit made a reservation at camp and would still like to keep your reservation for your weekend, you can do that with the understanding the activity can only be a day event. Please contact the camping department if you would like us to cancel your reservation and process a refund.
Thank you for your understanding and stay safe. We appreciate how difficult planning activities can be when a target is moving. Compliance with the Governor’s requirements is critical, and we continue to ask you to err on the side of caution with all events and activities. Safety of our Scouts, leaders, and their families is paramount.
Should you have questions, please visit our COVID-19 page here: https://ctscouting.org/covid-19-council-update/

Troop 2020 COVID-19 Awareness Message
Dear Troop 2020 Families,
Today, we learned that one of our Scouts in Troop 2020 was potentially exposed to someone with COVID-19 and is self-quarantining for the next 2 weeks. While we cannot share details for privacy reasons, we have no reason to suspect this person contracted COVID-19 during a Troop 2020 setting. This Scout did attend our October 22nd Troop Meeting in person, before learning of the potential exposure prior to the meeting. The October 22nd Troop Meeting was held outdoors, the Scouts & Leaders were all wearing masks and kept proper social distance to avoid any potential transmission.
Quarantining as a result of close contact with a case is not an indication that an individual has contracted the virus; it is a conservative way to break further transmission.
We ask for your assistance in keeping up best practices outside of Troop 2020 activities. We know that your efforts at home and in the community are what will help keep our Scouts safe. Proper precautions, including limiting the amount and size of social gatherings (especially indoors) and continuing to wear a mask and social distance, do make an impact. We also ask that you perform a daily health screening with your Scouts and to be cautious deciding whether or not to send your Scouts to Troop activities if symptoms develop: a cold is not “just a cold” in the age of COVID. Individual responsibility yields collective results.
The Troop Committee will continue to closely monitor this situation and keep everyone informed as a safety precaution.
YiS,
Steve Houghtaling

Volunteers Needed: Scouting For Food
Scouting for Food in Vernon is scheduled for Saturday, Nov 7th. Volunteers are needed to drop off customized hangtags instead of tying bags to doors. Scouts will be asked to travel to the houses of selected routes on Sat. Nov. 7th (due to COVID-19 safety concerns, only traveling with their own families) and put only a hangtag on the doorknob. The hangtags will indicate to the resident to bring any food donation directly to Hockanum Valley Community Council on Saturday Nov. 14 between 9 am – 2pm. If Nov. 7th is busy or has bad weather, the hangtags can certainly be delivered later that week (targeting to be done before Wed. 11/11). In essence, each family can go when convenient during those days.
Please email t2020ct@gmail.com by the end of this week if you are able to help.
